"An Egyptian Muslim murdered his wife, then buried his 8-year-old daughter and baby," reports a Californian ministry. The man claimed that an uncle had killed the children. 15 days later, another family member died. When the family buried the deceased, they found the two girls - still alive! When asked how they survived, the 8-year-old girl answered "A man in shining white clothes, with bleeding wounds in his hands, brought us food every day. He even revived our mother to breast-feed my sister." In an interview with a Muslim journalist on Egyptian national television, she said "It was no one other than Jesus, because nobody else could have done anything like that!" The crime caused a national outcry, with many demanding the death sentence for the father. "It seems clear, though, that the child did not invent the story, and they could not have survived without a miracle," says the source.   Friday Fax, June 2004

I have just returned from a nearly two-week trip to Egypt. I took fifteen other Presbyterian mission leaders with me. What we learned and saw utterly amazed me. We talked with numerous Egyptian missionaries and pastors who all told us the same thing: Middle Eastern societies are opening up as never before and more Muslims are feeling an increased freedom to investigate the claims of Chritianity. In fact, the movie, the "The Passion of the Christ" has challenged the teachings of Muhammad as never before. The Qu'ran explicitly teaches that Jesus, a great prophet, never died on the cross, in addition to his not being divine or ever resurrected. In Egypt, El-Azhar University and its powerful clerics tried to stop Mel Gibson's film from being shown, but the media and masses demanded that it be released. As a result, the Egyptian government intervened and allowed the movie to be shown. Thousands of Egyptians flocked to the theaters, and the movie has become the greatest seller in all of Egyptian history. Churches and missionaries are getting telephone calls and visits by the day from inquiring Muslims who never before had ever imagined that Jesus might have indeed died on the cross, that Jesus really did love his enemies even to the point of crucifixion. Egyptian Christians are referring to these current days as the harvest time, after years of Christian missionary efforts in Egypt and throughout the Middle East. Something has to give: either Jesus did die on the cross and was resurrected as the Son of God or he wasn't. We were further told that the events of September 11 have rocked the Islamic world more than our newspapers have told us. Increasing numbers of Muslims, especially the younger and more moderate ones, are questioning whether they want to continue in the traditions of their parents, if indeed the Qu'ran teaches violence against those who do not submit to the will of Allah as taught by Muhammad. Please continue to pray for these brave new Muslims who are becoming followers of Jesus, sometimes in the secrecy of their own hearts. This transition from more closed societies and governments in the Middle East to more free ones will take time ... Islam clearly asserts that the teachings of Muhammad are only successful to the extent that the establishment of Islamic law for all society is mandatory for the nation in which it thrives. Pray that these brave, new believers in Christ will someday have the freedom to worship where they may throughout the Arabic-speaking world.  Dan McNerney of Presbyterian Frontier Fellowship, April 2004

Nathan and his family sat in the train on the way back from ministering in a number of villages when strangers addressed them - journalists from the national TV, interviewing families. They asked Nathan about his relationship with his wife and children, even continuing when they discovered that they were Christians, recording their Biblically-based answers. When they discovered that Nathan taught children in a school, their questions became even more detailed, and Nathan suddenly had a national platform to explain the basics of the Gospel and the difference between nominal Christianity and true discipleship. To his astonishment, the interview was broadcast on Egyptian national TV at prime time - around 9.00pm on Saturday evening. His telephone rang into the early hours of the morning. “That is absolutely unknown in a predominantly Islamic society,” he says. http://www.inter-nationalneeds.com, September 2003
